I'm joining in the conversation about how to exist and thrive within the outdated structures of a dying denomination. How do we become a movement again, instead of a monument to historicity?

The thing we have forgotten is what the Wesley brothers were all about. It was not about being Sunday morning pew polishers, it was about bringing people to Christ, where and how they were. John Wesley railed against the lifeless Anglican Church of his day, and yet too many of our congregations are happy as clams to be exactly what Wesley fought to reform. In my home church, in most committee meetings, God, mission in Christ, and Wesleyan principals are seldom discussed unless one of us Mavericks puts it on the table. I have actually had people tell me that the Finance committee was about church money, not about religion!!!! We have way too many United Methodist who can't tell you why they are members of their church without discussing ancestors or architecture. People like Ed Greenway and Craig Miller have put their finger on the problem. Getting the entrenched laity (and I am a lay person) to even acknowledge that there is a problem, and to accept blame for it is nearly impossible. It was always someone elses fault that the last old member died and the another church went up for sale. Instead of itenerating pastors, why don't we itenerate laity....
